Most dogs can use a little help when it comes to their breath. We know ours can! So we created this treat here at See Spot Eat in order to help sweeten our dogs breath. Herbs like mint and parsley have natural breath freshening properties and the calcium in the egg shells is great for their teeth! AND this treat is wheat free for those pups that may have allergies to wheat.

Preheat oven to 350.

Ingredients:
1 c rye flour
3/4 c oat flour
1/2 – 3/4 c spelt flour (depending on consistency of dough – add more or less)
1/4 c oats
1 tbs dry mint
2 tbs dry parsley
2 eggs
2/3 c beef broth
1/4 c canola oil
1 tsp Egg shells, crushed fine (optional)

Mix together dry ingredients (including egg shell, if used) in a mixing bowl. Mix together eggs, canola, and beef broth in a separate bowl. Add liquid to dry ingredients slowly while mixing constantly. Dough will have a pasty consistency.

Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Flip cookies over and bake an additional 15 minutes. Turn off oven and allow cookies to sit in oven two more hours or overnight.

Store in an airtight container.

Bon appetit!

This is a treat we sometimes carry here at See Spot Eat. We tend to keep it in stock around the holidays, but it’s popular with our own pups year round! (Maybe your dog will give you a high five as well if you make it!

) This makes small pieces of treats which are great to use for training.

Ingredients

2 c whole wheat flour
4 c Cheerios cereal
1 c natural or organic creamy peanut butter
1/4 c nonfat dry milk powder
3 eggs
1 tbsp molasses
1/4 c warm water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Put peanut butter in a large glass bowl and put in microwave oven for a minute or so until softened. Mix in all the other ingredients until the dough is fairly crumbly and stiff.

Use your hands to spread the dough onto a large greased cookie sheet. If need be, you can put grease or flour on your hands to keep them from getting sticky. Spread in pan 1/2 thick or less – NO THICKER!

Bake for 10 minutes. Remove the pan and flip the dough – pieces at a time. Return to oven for five more minutes. Remove from oven and break any large pieces in to smaller, bite-sized pieces.

Enjoy!

Here in Nashville, we are getting into the time of year when those creepy critters known as fleas begin to become a challenge for us and our pups. It is believed that fleas dislike the flavor of yeast (particularly brewer’s and nutritional yeasts) and garlic and that the blood of dogs who eat this becomes unpalatable for fleas. So we decided that we’d try a cookie with yeast in it to see if our dogs enjoyed it. They did! Try it out for yourselves and let us know how it work for you and your pup.

No Mo Fleas, Please Recipe

•	1 cup whole wheat flour
•	1/4 cup wheat germ
•	1/4 cup brewer’s yeast
• 2 tsp garlic powder
•	1 1/2 tbsp olive oil
•	3/4 cup chicken stock (reserve 1/4 cup for basting)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly grease a cookie sheet.
Mix flour, wheat germ, garlic powder, and brewer’s yeast together in a medium bowl. Pour the oil into a separate bowl. Alternately add the chicken stock and flour mixture into the bowl with the oil, and mix well.

Knead dough on a floured surface for a few minutes. The dough should be sticky.

Roll dough out until it’s about 3/8″ thick. Cut into cookies with cookie cutters and place on cookie sheet.

Bake 10 minutes, flip the treats, and baste with remaining chicken stock. Bake 10 minutes longer.

Turn off oven, leaving oven door closed. Leave pan in oven for 1 1/2 hours longer to finish cooking.

Makes about five dozen biscuits.

At our bakery, See Spot Eat: A Doggie Bakery, we love to try out lots of different recipes to see which ones the pups prefer. We have found that they really tend to like banana treats (which surprises a lot of their ‘parents’). Try out the recipe below and see what your own furry best pal thinks! We bet it will get that tail a’waggin!

Bow Wow Banana Bites

2 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup nonfat dry milk
1 egg
1/3 cup mashed ripe banana
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 beef buillion cube dissolved in 1/2 cup hot water

Mix all ingredients until will blended. Knead for 2 minutes on a floured surface. Roll to 1/4 ” thickness. Use a 2 1/2″ bone shaped cookie cutter (or any one you prefer). Bake for 30 minutes in a 300 degrees oven on ungreased cookie pans.

The following treat is a variation of one of our most popular treats at See Spot Eat: A Doggie Bakery. It’s both sweet and savory and you can get creative with it by changing up the vegetables you use. These treats are also soft so that even older chowhounds can partake! If you don’t feel like making your own, come by the bakery to let your canine companion try our ‘Eat Your Veggies’ treats which are very similar to these. We know they’ll love ‘em!

Tongue Teasers

1 egg, beaten
1/3 cup applesauce (no sugar added)
1 cup cooked vegetables*, mashed or grated small
1 cup cooked brown rice
3/4 cup grated cheese
1 tbsp. brewers yeast

NOTE: the images in this feed have been downsized or removed for copyright reasons. To see them in their unmodified state, please view the original post by clicking here.

When temperatures reach the 80s and 90s, we can grab an ice-cold beverage or an ice pop to provide temporary relief from the heat. But, what about our canine friends? What refreshing treats can we share with them? It’s tempting to give dogs regular popsicles or other ice cream treats, but most of these contain artificial flavorings and sugars that are unhealthy for dogs. However, there are an abundance of holistic alternatives that can be made right in your home!

This past weekend, as the temperatures reached the mid-80s, Adrian discovered a great pupsicle recipe to help keep Benny refreshed and energetic in the hot weather. The recipe (see below) contains ingredients that are safe for your dog or pup, tasty and easy to find around your home. As you can tell from the photos, Benny absolutely loved his holistic pupsicles—I almost ate one!

Ingredients (for 3 dozen treats)

2 mashed bananas

1 c. strawberries (fresh or frozen)

1 c. organic apple juice

2 c. yogurt (plain or vanilla)

Methods

Puree all ingredients in a blender.

Pour into ice cube trays or small plastic cups and freeze for one hour or more, depending on the temperature setting.

Thaw just so slightly before serving.

Note: The apple juice can be substituted with a jar of baby food (any fruit flavor) because it has great nutritional value and is easy to digest. Just be sure to use an organic brand with no added sugars of preservatives.

This past week we came across this great Eco-Dog Kit. The kit shows you how to cut back on using dog products that contain household chemicals. It features instructions, ingredients, and bottles/jars that make it easy to make these eco-friendly products including a 100% natural Flea and Bug Spray. Wow! Your dog and the earth will definitely appreciate these new eco-friendly products.

Have a great rest of the week!
