Luke and Harley were the winners of the annual cover dog contest and I just love how everything turned out! They are seriously sweet Bloodhounds who love car rides and relaxing with their mom and dad. You can pick up the magazine at local book stores, Whole Foods, Harris Teeter, Kroger, etc. The issue also has great local pet resources and many other cute dogs that came out to the cover dog search at Cheekwood. A huge thanks to Shannon at the beautiful Southall Eden! She was gracious to let us shoot the cover at her gorgeous farm in Leiper’s Farm. If you’re getting married, give her a call. Thanks for looking

When I arrived for our dog session, they greeted me at the door with toys in mouth. They are incredibly loving and so sweet! Jack and Savannah are litter mates, 8 years old and loved immensely by their dog moms.

This is Jack – lover of toys, lounging in the back yard and ice cream.

Meet Pearl. She is a five-month-old French Bulldog puppy loved dearly by her dog mom. This little puppy is as cute as they come! She’s spunky, inquisitive, fast and of course sweet. I’ve known Devon for a couple of years and I’m so glad she chose to have Pearl photographed as a puppy. Dogs lose their puppy looks so quickly and it’s always nice to have puppyhood documented. We all had such a great time! Thanks so much to Cheekwood for letting us shoot here! Their gardens are gorgeous this time of year.

I mean, seriously. What other dog blows bubbles, grumbles, snorts and talks to you? Sessions with Frenchies are never short on entertainment! I love these little brothers. Buddy (the black brindle Frenchie) was first in the family and guess what Santa brought him for Christmas? Why a little puppy playmate – Itty Bitty! They drove in from Jackson for our session. Even though the drive tired out Itty, they still had a great time together, and I’m so glad they came to Nashville.

We met up on a beautiful Saturday morning and had fun playing in the flowers. Asia and Kinjie are Japanese Chins (aka: Gremlin dogs!). You may recognize Maggie, a Golden mix, who despite her young looks is 13! (She was adopted by this mother and daughter locally from Love at First Sight.) I love photographing dogs this time of year. Everything is alive and the weather is perfect. Enjoy these

And that means tick season is brewing as well.

I’m assuming that due to a mild winter, ticks will be worse this year. After going for a hike, we discovered one on Benny. I know this is gross, but the tick was engorged so I couldn’t just pull it out with tweezers and burning them off sounds awful. (Besides, pulling ticks out with tweezers is dangerous because there is always the risk of leaving part of the head. Leaving behind part of the tick can lead to infection in your dog. Something we definitely all try to avoid!) Thanks to google, we found a non-invasive way that was easy, quick and no side effects! The best way to remove a tick from your dog is to rotate the body until it pulls out. Put on a glove and place your finger on the end of the tick body. Rotate the body clockwise. (Be sure to rotate the entire body.) The movement must throw off ticks’ equilibrium because within 60 seconds they will completely detach themselves from your dog. (It took about 30 seconds with Benny.) Place the tick in a plastic bag and kill it. Keep it for a couple of days. You’ll want to monitor your pup to make sure he feels okay as ticks are carriers of Lyme Disease. Let me know if this works for you!

Does anyone have natural ways to keep dogs tick-free? If so, please share below!
