February is National Pet Dental Month

Don’t worry, it doesn’t mean that you have to visit the dentist. This dental campaign may remind you about your own teeth, but it is intended to inform and encourage pet owners to take your dog’s oral health seriously. Similar to humans, an unhappy set of canine teeth can cause bad breath, decrease in appetite, and just overall misery. You should use preventative measures at home – brushing and looking into healthier food and bones. One of our favorites is Greenies dental chews which offer a great tasting, nutritious bone that helps control bad breath and tartar build up.

But it is also important to visit the vet for an annual dental check-up. Fortunately, this month several vets are offering discounts on canine cleanings. I did a bit of research about dog tooth brushes, but also be sure to ask your vet for their recommendations.

Healthypets.com has a variety of dog toothbrushes, including the Bamboo Quadbrush and there is also the Easy Brush Toothbrush that only requires the dog to chew it!

Adrian is excited about the travel schedule, as she loves to explore new places and find unique backgrounds and textures for dog, family, and children portraits. There is a always a bit of pre-travel research and I personally enjoy these Design Sponge City Guides which are usually crafted by people who currently live or have lived in the featured city (there is a Nashville guide if you’re interested in finding out what is highlighted!) As well, it is always important to learn from the locals about where to stay, dine, visit and we’d love to hear your comments about the cities Adrian will visit. So, if there are any destinations that stand out in your mind (especially if they are dog-friendly!), please share in the comment section. Thanks!

Denver is very dog friendly and is a beautiful, active place to be. If you haven’t been, it would be a great destination to add.

Dog Wisdom – Photographer Nashville, TN

The more time I spend with Benny, the more I feel as though he is human … or at least exhibits human traits! And from talking to several of you, I know I’m not alone. And I’m not so sure if Benny realizes that he is a dog either. I found this quote to be quite fitting!

hahahaha so cute! I know Summit thinks she’s a human as well…at least that’s the look she gives us when she gets kicked off of the bed at night. lol Love that shot!

Lexi - February 16, 2010 - 11:30 pm

That would look super cute blown up and proudly hung on a wall for everyone to see.

Lindsey Johnson - February 19, 2010 - 2:44 pm

Is that Maggie’s booty? So cute and I love the quote! That would be an adorable picture!

mary crow - February 21, 2010 - 1:32 pm

Have you ever thought that maybe they think we are dogs with a different shape? Dogs and cats are far superior to humans!

Pet Photography – Golden Retriever in the Snow

I couldn’t resist but to share more from this dog snow session! I absolutely love photographing in the snow. The blanket of snow acts as one huge reflector and tends to bring out the kid in all of us. Enjoy a few more favorites from my time with Lady, a beautiful Golden Retriever.

St. Valentine’s Day – Wednesdays with Laura

Who is Saint Valentine? I, for one, looked to wikipedia for an answer and learned that the name is derived from valens (worthy) and that there was actually a Saint Valentine that was buried on February 14. Most people probably already knew that information, but if you have any other information to share, please do.

For me, Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to get crafty! I love to make cards out of the various paper scraps that litter my desk. My grandmother has always sent me a Valentine’s Day card (usually Charlie Brown-themed because that was my grandfather’s name) and it is just so pleasant to receive a card even if you don’t entirely subscribe to the holiday.

If you are looking for a great chocolate gift, check out Olive & Sinclair’s special Valentine’s Cinnamon and Chili Chocolate. If you don’t get to that in time, they are also selling chocolate bars with a special Valentine wrapper. I found some at the Turnip Truck in East Nashville and I think they are also available at Crema and The Green Wagon. If you decide to visit The Green Wagon (the Sylvan Park store is having a huge sale) check out the Grow-A-Note Valentine’s Day cards – an adorable card with a packet of seeds!

As we all know, chocolate is not for dogs. But, Pattern and Paw has a line of Valentine’s Day collars that are handcrafted right here in Nashville. And, you could also bake your dog’s favorite biscuit in the shape of heart. Go crazy!

If you are looking for a festive run this weekend, check out the Cupids Chase. On Saturday head over to Shelby Bottoms Greenway to join others (in Nashville and throughout the nation) who are running with their hearts! This national 5k run is raising funds for Community Options, Inc. (COI), a nonprofit organization that develops housing and employment support for people with developmental disabilities. You can register online or the morning of the race.

Enjoy the weekend. Stay warm!
