Nashville Paw – Wednesdays with Laura

As many of you may know, Nashville Paw is a wonderful resource for pet owners and dog lovers in Nashville and throughout Tennessee. This bimonthly publication keeps you up to date on the latest pet-related news, resources, and events. Most importantly, Nashville Paw is dedicated to the humane treatment of all animals and they actively support animal rescue, adoption and spay/neuter efforts. Over the last year, Adrian has photographed several covers for the magazine and she is always inspired by the Nashville Paw team who are always so passionate about their work.

Although the magazine is complimentary, we want to encourage everyone to subscribe. One year (six issues) is only $24.00 and it is delivered to your door! The current issue is still available on newsstands, but as Adrian and I are experiencing, you definitely have to get to it quick — it is quite a popular item!

We are glad to announce that we have a winner of the New Year Giveaway! In 2010, Sherri’s resolution for 2010 is to walk her dogs more, which I’m sure many of us can add to our lists. According to this New York Times article, a dog is your best choice for a walking partner – most reliable and never showing signs of discouragement. So, put Fido on a leash and head outside!

On a closing note, please visit the Animal Rescue Site. When you click on the button, the website sponsors donate food and money to animal rescue organizations. You don’t have to donate anything – you just have to click!

Cats – Nashville Pet Photographer

Occasionally, I’ll get interest in my photographing someone’s cats. This was my first complete cat session, but I really enjoyed it! Ito and Nora are the cats of the extremely gifted painter, Arthur Kirkby. He had me photograph them as a surprise Christmas gift for his partner. I loved photographing in his home and getting to know these two little loves. Photographing cats is different than photographing dogs, but I was surprised at their numerous similarities. I plan on writing another post about Arthur’s great work, but for now enjoy these of his beautiful kitties.

The astute Ito.

Wow. Love the cat photo’s!!!

Betty A. Muscott - January 27, 2010 - 3:17 pm

I am not a fan of cats, but these photographs show the beauty of these animals. My passion is photographing children.

My mother lives on a farm and keeps a number of cats around as farm workers, and some of them are quite lovely. Perhaps I should follow your lead and photograph some of them.

Great photos, well taken and framed.

TP - January 27, 2010 - 10:35 pm

The eyes! So fetching.

Nashville Dog Photographer – Wilson the Boston Terrier

You may remember this Boston Terrier? I’m back with more of a peek into their dog session! Wilson is quite the comedic dog. Every time I am around him, he shows off a new trick (like walking himself – leash and all) or talks to me. I love it. Vocal dogs are nothing short of hysterical. He’s perfect for Chris and Adrienne and I’m so glad they were up for being Wilson’s props for this shoot! 😉

Sunday afternoon picnic anyone?

Dog Photographer – Jaxie

Jaxie was an absolute ball. If you’ve been around dogs much, you know how much they enjoy having their tummies rubbed. Well, Jaxie wins the award for the dog who loves these the most! Amanda and I couldn’t do much without her rolling over and begging for a belly rub. Hysterical. The session went great and for the record was shot in 25 degree weather. I love shooting through all of the seasons and winter always offer a cooler color of light. Beautiful. All of that to say, don’t worry about the temperature dictating when you can book a photography session! We book year-round.

Have a wonderful weekend and we’ll see you on Monday!

And here is Jaxie relishing in one of her many tummy rubs!:)

Don’t forget about our dog giveaway. Winner will be announced on Wednesday!

Imaging USA Conference – Wednesdays with Laura

A couple of exciting things have been going on around Adrian Hitt Photography! If you pick up this month’s issue of Professional Photographer magazine, you will see a couple of familiar faces! Adrian (and Benny:)) were featured in an article highlighting the development of her business and her focus on dog photography. It is one of Adrian’s favorite magazines and she’s honored to be featured!

Last week, Adrian attended the annual Imaging USA conference, this year hosted at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center. The three-day convention is a combination of a tradeshow, photography seminars, and networking opportunities. This year, approximately 200 vendors were present and more than 10,000 international photographers – a record number – attended the event! As you can imagine, Adrian had the opportunity to meet several photographers, including one of her favorites, Jose Villa, a wedding and portrait photographer located in Southern California.

The event is hosted by Professional Photographers of America (PPA), the largest non-profit professional photographer association. This fall Adrian was named the Emerging Pro from the AN-NE Marketing Awards hosted by PPA and she was honored at the award ceremony at the close of the convention. In addition, two of Adrian’s photos were enlarged for banners at the convention at the PPA booth (that we hope to have video coverage of soon!) Overall, it was an energetic and inspiring event and Adrian encourages all professional photographers to join PPA and attend next year’s convention (San Antonio, TX – January 16 – 18, 2011).

To close today’s blog entry, if you haven’t already, I want to encourage you to donate to a charity that is contributing to relief efforts in Haiti. Charity Navigator lists and rates several organizations that are working in Haiti and provides tips for donating. We plan on doing our part by donating $50 from every session booked between now and February 5, 2010. Note that you don’t have to be photographed by February 5, just book a session – both kid and dog sessions qualify! Thanks to all and have a great day!
