Record Setting Dogs!

Before I tell dive into today’s post, I want to remind everyone that the Mutt Strut and Dog Days Festival are this Saturday at Centennial Park. We hope to see y’all there!

As a child I was fascinated with the Guinness Book of World Records–oldest cake, longest nails, fastest time to run a mile, and on and on and on. I would spend hours flipping through the book, constantly in awe of these amazing, freakish, and silly “talents”. Within the last year, a new record setting phenomenon has arisen: The Universal Record Database (URDB). You may have seen the URDB on the Jimmy Fallon Show or Jay Leno Show or perhaps you heard about Drew Barrymore’s recent record for “Most People Hit With Pies in 30 Seconds While on Rollerskates”. So, what is this all about? URDB believes that every person on earth has potential to be the world’s best ‘something’ and their mission is to become the database where all such achievements will live.  As creativity is encouraged, the records range from “Most Toothpicks Stuck in a Grape in 30 seconds” to “Longest Tape Measure Extension Toss” to “Most Hand-Shakes Elicited from a Dog in 30 Seconds.” Yes, our canine friends are allowed to participate in this record-setting madness. There are some examples here and if you feel inspired, you and your dog (or cat or turtle) can set a new one or try to break an old one. Just get it on videotape and submit it to the website. Then, sit back and enjoy your moment of record-setting fame!

Irish Blessing – Pet Photographer Nashville, TN

With all of the rain and cooler weather, I couldn’t help but think of this Irish blessing. We used it on our holiday card a couple of years ago, and I’ve loved it ever since. Even in the rain, Benny is on squirrel patrol!

October is a busy month for dog-friendly events. Not just dog-friendly, but dog-centric! Next Saturday, the Nashville Humane Association is throwing the annual Dog Days Festival at Centennial Park. At 9 am, the day kicks off with Mutt Strut, an opportunity for your pup to show off his/her style and charm. From 10 am to 4 pm you and your dog will have the chance to check out new products, services, training classes, pet portraits and more! There are also activities for children and a great picnic area for families. Tickets are $5 and all proceeds benefit the Nashville Humane Association.

Be sure to stop by our booth! We will be there all day and love to have visitors! We may even have a treat or two!

Nashville Humane Association Dog Day Festival 2009

After you visit the Dog Days Festival, head on over to Germantown for Nashville’s Oktoberfest. From 9 am to 6 pm you can get your fill of authentic German food, arts and crafts, music, and, of course, a pint of German beer! There will also be walking tours of the neighborhood’s historic churches and exhibits about the history of Germantown.

The following Saturday, October 17 is the rain date for the Pooch Plunge! Nashville Public Television is hosting this event at the Nashville Shores. Bring your dog and bear the cooler weather!

The fun doesn’t stop there. On Thursday, October 22 Nashville Paw and Loews Vanderbilt Hotel are hosting the final “Rex in the City” event. Barktoberfest will feature a costume contest (for you and your dog), music by Shotgun Scooter, and fabulous food and beer! For more info visit the event site.

Look forward to seeing everyone at the Dog Days Festival!

A Great Read

In August, a book titled “How to be a Hepburn in a Hilton World” hit book stores across the nation. Written by local author Jordan Christy (also a client of Adrian Hitt Photography!), the book offers advice to young women on how to maintain traditional values in our modern world. She encourages young women to look away from the habits of certain female celebrity figures and instead focus on being “polite, well-spoken, gracious, charming and thoughtful.” To learn more about Jordan and the story behind her book, check out the interview on the Today Show (congrats!) which also includes an excerpt from the book.

As I mentioned, Jordan, Drew and their daughter met up with Adrian in June, and we just wanted to share a couple favorites from the session. What a sweet family!
